Want to make sure the freezer is stocked with treats to grab when you need something refreshing? Try tea popsicles. They are hydrating and cooling, especially perfect after summer activities like a walk on the beach, playing at the park with your kids, or just getting home from work.
They are simple to make so have your kids help! Three simple tips for delicious popsicles:
- When popsicles freeze their flavors dull. Brew your tea extra strong and up the flavor profile.
- If you don’t add enough sugar, the popsicles would be too icy (hard like ice cubes).
- Pre-freeze your popsicle molds and make sure your liquid has been chilled.
Ginger Peach Black Tea Popsicles
Summer popsicles are a great way to use fresh, in-season produce. These Ginger Peach Black Tea popsicles are quick and easy and let sweet peaches shine!
6 teaspoons Ginger Peach Black Tea
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup of your favorite milk or dairy alternative – I use almond milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Simmer 5 cups of water. Make slits in the bottom of the peaches and place in the simmering water for about 30 seconds to help loosen the skin. Remove from the water and let cool. Peel off the skin, remove pit, and cut into wedges.
In a small skillet heat almond milk until hot. Remove from heat and add the tea. Let brew for 6 minutes. Strain the tea.
Combine the peaches, tea/milk mixture, honey and vanilla in a blender. Puree until smooth. Add a splash of the water from the peaches if needed.
Pour into a 6-popsicle mold. Set popsicle sticks in and freeze for 8 hours. (Looking for an extra kick in an adult version? Add a bit of your favorite…whiskey, bourbon, or…?)
Blood Orange Hibiscus Popsicles
We love hibiscus tisanes here, so treat your kids to the vibrantly colored, caffeine-free hibiscus popsicles.
6 cups water
2 cups sugar
6 teaspoons Blood Orange Hibiscus Tea
1/4 cup fresh squeezed blood orange juice and zest
Combine water and sugar and bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Add tea, remove from heat and steep for 25 minutes.
Strain tea and chill for 2 hours. Add in orange zest and juice. Pour into a popsicle mold and freeze until solid.
Blueberry Lemon Green Tea Popsicles
These super simple Blueberry Lemon Meringue Green Tea popsicles are smooth, a bit sweet and refreshing on a summer day.
6 teaspoons Lemon Meringue Green Tea
Juice of 1 lemon
1 cup fresh blueberries
Wash blueberries, add a few to each popsicle mold. Mix green tea and lemon juice and pour into molds, leaving a little room at the top for the sticks. Freeze for about 8 hours.
